Several hams have been asking if we could hold another DMR Training Class. We held one a Year ago, An had a Great turn out. If we can get another Great turn out we will do one again! Please RSVP to if you would like to partake in a DMR Class.

Please Include the Type of DMR radio(s) you are using an if you will need some programming help. Some Travel will be needed as we can not possibly hold a class in every City/State. House Bill H. 3355 DUI-E

As you may have heard, a Bill has been introduced in the SC House of Representatives to ban DUI-E, Driving Under the Influence of Electronic devices. The short form is that it will require hands free operation of cell phones, GPS, etc. As the Bill is currently written, there is an exemption for Amateur Radio.

As of this point, Gordon Mooneyhan, W4EGM has been in touch with Roanoke Division Director Hippisley, Vice-Director Morine, SC Section Manager Tarplee, and Dan Henderson of ARRL Regulatory staff, all because one of the GSARC members decided to jump the gun regarding this bill. The consensus that was reached is that, since the Bill has what we want, we will do nothing, except monitor the progress at this time.

Basically, I wanted to get the word out that the Section Manager is aware of this Bill, and a plan is in place. I’m sure Marc would appreciate it if y’all would help get the word out that a plan is in place and that it would be appreciated if the Amateur Radio community would just do nothing at this point as we don’t want to upset the apple cart.

Winter Club Meeting!

Hello All,
Just a quick reminder of our meeting scheduled for 01 December 2018 at Shuler’s BBQ 419 Highway 38 Latta SC, 29592. Meeting time is 12:00 pm sharp as we have another group using the facilities at 1:30 pm. We have the room from 11:30 until 1:30 so I plan to get there early.

The board has not set any agendas for this meeting, so the floor will be open for any and all traffic. I would also like to mention that this is the election meeting and all seats are up for re-election.

The current board members have served for several years and we welcome anyone who would like to give the management of the society a try.

I really look forward to seeing all of you there!

Best Regards,
Tim Thompson, W2SOC
